EUROPEAN RECOGNITION,
OSCAR SECURITE 2000 PRIZE TO
A leading Central-European special exhibition FOREXPO, dedicated to the
development
of forest- and wood-related technology, awarded System Logmatic a new
Finnish
product and method, the esteemed Encouragement Prize in the face of some
tough
competition . The jury's decision was influenced, first and foremost, by the
overall
safety features of System Logmatic as well as its general properties.
The accomplishing of improved safety when making household firewood has been
found
to be a central problem in studies conducted in this area. For example, VTT
Finnish
Technical Research Centre states in its research results (no. 293 ), that
more than
94% of the accidents involving the use of an axe took place in normal use
and less
than 4% of these accidents were caused by incorrect use. Thus, the study
reports,
approximately 4,000 Finns per year are injured to such an extent that they
need to
seek medical attention despite the fact that they had used an axe in the
normal way.
This figure applies solely to Finland, with a population of 5 million
people, which
corresponds to less than 1,000th of the world population. Consequently, one
can only
guess at how many people injure themselves the world over in connection with
firewood splitting. It would appear then that Logmatic Wedge-Axes could do
away with
a lot of global pain.
