ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Ecological and efficient burning of wood requires that the wood has been
split into
pieces about 5-10 cm in thickness. When firewood of this size is then dried
to
air-dry state under a shelter or in a woodshed, and then burnt efficient in
the
proper way, the end result is energy-efficient and clean combustion. Many
people
don't stop to think or they don't understand the extent to which the
environment is
polluted by wrong type of burning.
By using "a prevision tool", meaning the Logmatic Wedge-Axe and Splitting
Basket,
anyone can produce eco-firewood fast and then easily carry the wood to where
it is
needed. Studies have show that the pollutant amounts released from this kind
of
firewood are considerably smaller than those released when burning large wet
pieces
of wood. According to the producers of the Ekoisti television programme in
Finland,
one-third of methane, which is 20 times worse than carbon dioxide, is
released as a
result of incorrect small-scale burning of wood.
Once wood has been split into pieces of suitable size and dried, there are
some
tricks you need to know about setting the wood to burn. It is important to
remember
to set the wood in the fireplace so that the flow of air among the pieces is
not
blocked. In fireplaces where the pieces of wood are placed upright, the
point of
lighting the fire is at the top. In the oven type of fireplace you need to
first set
a couple of pieces of wood crosswise and then lay the rest of the wood on
top of
these. This allows plenty of air to flow in and out the pile of wood.
